At my husband Tom’s company event, his colleague Sarah’s behavior crossed the line. She winked at him, constantly touched his arm, brought up “late-night project” inside jokes, and even spilled a drink on his lap, insisting on cleaning it. After watching her antics all night, I finally snapped, saying, “If you’re done making eyes at my husband, perhaps we could all enjoy a professional evening.”
Sarah laughed it off and accused me of being insecure, but I stood my ground. Tom, however, was upset with me, claiming Sarah is just naturally flirty and that I embarrassed him. Things escalated when Sarah emailed me an apology—but also called my behavior “territorial and unprofessional,” copying Tom and his supervisor.
Now, Tom is sleeping in the guest room, and opinions are split. Some of his colleagues’ wives agree Sarah’s behavior was inappropriate, while others think I overreacted.
