Nora adjusted her veil, ready for what should’ve been the happiest day of her life. The ceremony went smoothly, and the reception was filled with laughter and cake-smashing fun—until the videographer, Mike, approached her with troubling news.
“Hey, Nora, you need to see this,” he said, showing her footage of her new father-in-law, Gerald, sneaking away with a gift from the table.
“Is he stealing our presents?” she gasped, panic rising.
Confronting Gerald, Nora learned he wasn’t stealing; he was trying to protect her from her new mother-in-law, Vivian. “She packed silverware that she rubbed with orange peels. I overheard her planning something nasty,” Gerald revealed. Nora’s allergy to oranges could lead to a nasty rash, ruining their honeymoon.
Stunned, Nora knew she had to tell Finn.
Nora shared the shocking news with Finn, who was equally incredulous. They decided to keep the information under wraps for the time being to avoid ruining the wedding. As they mingled with guests, Nora felt ill every time she saw Vivian, who greeted them with faux warmth.
As the night wore on, Nora spotted Gerald returning the suspicious box to the gift table. They finally left, but the tension lingered. In the car, Finn reassured her, “Whatever happens with my mom, we’re a team now.”
Nora smiled, knowing they’d face whatever came next together, but the dark cloud of betrayal hung overhead. How could they move forward when trust had been shattered? For better or for worse, indeed.
