At the health food store where Grace worked, an entitled customer, “Miss Pompous,” threw her carrot juice at Grace’s face, humiliating her in front of everyone. The customer complained, “What is this watered-down garbage?” and demanded a refund and a free replacement. Mr. Weatherbee, the manager, quickly sided with the customer, adding to Grace’s embarrassment.
Determined not to be a doormat, Grace plotted her revenge. When Miss Pompous returned, Grace used a huge, gnarled carrot to make the juice, causing it to splatter on Miss Pompous’s expensive purse. Her reaction was dramatic: “You stupid girl! Look what you’ve done!”
The next day, Miss Pompous demanded that Grace be fired and compensation for her purse. Mr. Larson, the store owner, reviewed the security footage and concluded, “What I see here is an unfortunate accident that occurred after you assaulted my employee.” He told Miss Pompous to leave and not return.
Grace’s courage in the face of disrespect reaffirmed her self-worth and showed that sometimes, justice served with a side of carrot juice tastes the sweetest.
